Who Are We
ACRA
The African Renaissance Cultural Association is a Senegalese non-profit association created to participate in the promotion and protection of African cultural heritage, in all its forms and manifestations. It does so notably through:
- The dissemination of writings and works in African languages, including hieroglyphs, through an African languages library open to the public
- Courses in reading and writing national languages of Senegal as well as hieroglyphs
- Storytelling sessions in African languages
- Conferences on the history and/or aspects of African civilization by invited speakers
In order to be self-financed and maintain an almost free access to books, the library is both a café and a coworking space.
The Téere ak Teraanga Concept
Téere ak Teraanga is based on the idea of creating a unique space that:
- Offers a unique and authentic cultural experience
- Helps with productivity and relaxation
- Exists as a member of a community: the neighborhood (its inhabitants, those who work or study there, passers-by), artisans, chefs, organizations, and associations for the promotion and protection of African cultural heritage
Our Social Commitment
The objective of Téere ak Teraanga is to:
- facilitate access to books published in African languages
- contribute to literacy in national languages
- teach reading and writing of hieroglyphs
- anchor a cultural space for the neighborhood
To this end, the space fosters:
- the Subscription to an African language library for home loans at an affordable rate
- a free access to the library for on-site consultation and/or reading of books
- Collaboration with charitable associations for the free distribution of unsold non-expired food
The purchase of books in African languages and the free access to the library are made possible by the income generated from the café, takeaway, and coworking activities of the space.
